Nicole's story 1996 & 1997.

At Nicole's 2 Year old physical, her pediatrician expressed concern over her growth rate.
He told us that he wanted to do a CT scan to confirm his suspicions, but was did not want to say what he thought was causing her increased growth rate, without first testing her.

We said ok, and went to Children
's Memorial Hospital in Chicago for a CT scan.

After Nicole had the CT scan. The doctors ordered an MRI to get a better look.

The Diagnosis was Bilateral Optic Glioma (Astrocytoma), with Chiasmic involvement.
The tumors were creating pressure on the Pituitary, and the Hypothalamus glands. Which was causing the increased growth rate.

We were told that these tumors were generally benign, and that if they didn't grow anymore by the time she was 5 they probably wouldn't grow anymore.

So.... We began MRI's every 6 months to check for growth.
